5 Tips to Improve your People Skills to Attract more clients

A people business calls for people skills. The best technology and the best knowledge won't help you achieve success in business if you don't know how to talk to people.

How to improve your people skills to create a large and happy team?

Tip #1: Smile

What do you think when you see people smiling? They are happy, open, nice, optimistic... A genuine smile can show that it is easy to talk to you, and that they can trust you.

Don't forget either about non-verbal communication when doing a business presentation, a seminar, or simply when talking to somebody: don't cross your arms, make eye contact, take your hands out of your pockets, don't use your phone, etc.

Tip #2: Listen

Listening is an art. People won't care about what you have to say, if you don't properly listen to them.

The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply”

Pay attention and let them talk – NEVER interrupt! Take your time before answering too. If you repeat what they say in your own words, they'll know you understand, show interest in their point of view, and give an answer that actually resolves their problems.

Tip #3: Show Care

To potential clients: ask them for their opinion, solve their doubts, prove them they can always rely on you, and they will see you as the leader you are!

To your team: People work hard and they want to know that you appreciate their efforts and achievements – no matter how small. Let them know how great they are and they will stay motivated to keep moving forward!

Tip #4: Team Work

The only rule you need to follow is: “Treat others as you want to be treated.”

Always respect people and their opinion, try to avoid misunderstandings, and this may be hard to avoid but don't gossip about your colleagues either! That only creates a bad work environment and negative vibes.

Tip #5: The Power of Small Talk

Yes, it kills awkward silences, but best of all, you can know your potential clients better and they can know you too. A small talk before doing your presentation can help you start building a relationship, and even a friendship.

Talking about the weather? Maybe not. Try asking what they did last weekend, for example. You can find a common ground, and they will see you more friendly.
