Clear task — fast implementation

A goal is the constant pursuit of a worthy object until reaching it.”

Mark Victor Hansen, American motivational speaker, trainer and writer

Dream goal result

Many people live to achieve important goals. Some work on scientific projects, others develop their personal business, while somebody strives for sports victories.

Dreams push us towards setting goals. This is followed by planning, and then action. We get down to business with enthusiasm and self-confidence. But months and years pass by and the goal is never achieved.

We become anxious, lose motivation, begin to doubt our abilities. The goals look infinitely distant, the methods for achieving them seem ineffective... How to avoid risks and get joy from the process? How to achieve your goal quickly and efficiently? Here are some guidelines.

Clear wording is the key to success

1. Have a well-defined goal.

It is important to have a clear wording of your goal in order to act confidently and effectively. A properly set goal will not only indicate the shortest path to achieving a result, but will also serve as a source of motivation when the desire to move forward weakens.

For example, the goal “to increase sales” is too vague and non-specific. However, the phrase “increase sales to $5,000 in June” is an example of how to set a goal correctly.

Taking small steps towards great results

2. Have a plan of tasks.

The goal should be divided into several sub-tasks. Draw up a clear and elaborate action plan. Answer the questions: “What should I do first?” and “What is needed for the achievement of my goal?”

For example, if you want to see the Colosseum, the action plan would be as follows:

  • buy plane tickets to Rome;

  • book a hotel room;

  • pack a suitcase;

  • arrive at the airport;

  • fly to Italy;

  • see the attraction. The dream has come true!

See how the task becomes clear, well thought-out and realizable?

If your goal is more ambitious for example, to start your own business or buy a house breaking it down into smaller tasks is all the more necessary. Many psychologists advise comparing a big goal with an elephant, and the process of achieving it  with eating an elephant. Eating an entire elephant whole is an impossible task. But it can be cut into small pieces and eaten bit by bit.

Time, knowledge, money, people

3. Understand the amount of resources you need.

If you have the resources to achieve a goal, then it is realistic. Resources are your personal qualities, knowledge, information, money, time and other people. Be watchful to those around you, they can both bring you closer to the result and vice versa, lead you away.

If you lack certain resources, this is not a reason to abandon the task. Write a list of the necessary means, divide them into two parts: those you already have and those you need to acquire. Then make a plan of action to get the tools you need.
